Meteorologists say a heatwave is expected in Prague, as well as in the Central Bohemia and Ústí regions. The reason for this is likely a persistent high-pressure system over the region, which is bringing warm air through the affected areas.
Meanwhile, experts note that the heatwave is expected to worsen working conditions and increase the risk of health problems. They also say that, in some places, temperatures may exceed 40 degrees Celsius, while the heat will be most intense during the third day.
Allianz Trade’s analysis suggests that the extreme heat may reduce industrial production and lead to lower productivity. According to the study, the risk of production disruptions rises as temperatures climb, and the impact could be felt across multiple sectors.
Economist Vít Hradil from the company Investika said in an interview that, under such conditions, “it is very difficult to work, and productivity can drop sharply.” He also pointed out that the Czech Chamber of Commerce (Hospodářská komora) Zdeněk Zajíček (ODS) said that the heat could be particularly difficult for people working outdoors.
Meanwhile, the material also mentions the fact that the lack of air conditioning at workplaces could make working conditions worse. Roman Čurňo, of the Odborového svazu KOVO, said that if temperatures rise, employers should take measures to protect workers, including by ensuring breaks and cooling off.
