Bugatti presented the Destrier hypercar on the basis of Bolide

  • Bugatti presented the Destrier as a Solitaire one-off based on the Bolide, with the design Type 57SC Atlantic.
  • The Destrier is powered by an 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine with 1578bhp; the company says the dynamics are not yet confirmed.
  • The Destrier will make its appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and the material says the car will be shown for the first time at Monterey Car Week as part of the Pebble Beach Concours on 16 August.

According to Autocar and Top Gear, Bugatti has unveiled the Destrier as a “last-of-its-kind” car inspired by the Bugatti Bolide.

The materials say that Destrier draws on the Type 57SC Atlantic, which also inspired the design of the same Type 57G “Tank”, but with elements borrowed from the Bolide. The materials also claim that Destrier’s appearance is different from Bolide, and that the new car has a sprint 0-62mph time of 2.2 seconds.

According to the materials, the design of the Destrier is based on the “sculptural” form: designer-sculptor Frank Heyl says that Bolide’s “unprecedented proportions” inspired the design, and that the final result is a “nevertheless” Bolide with a “strong” visual character. The materials also say that Destrier’s height is “the same as” Bugatti’s “lissome one-metre” and that the wheelbase is 20in at the front and 21in at the rear.

At the same time, the interior of the Destrier, inspired by the Bolide, features a “boldest” design: the materials say that the car’s cabin is located in a “low” position with a “open” and “tight” layout around the driver, and that the driver’s seat is “in the middle” of the car. The materials also say that the cabin is “the same” as Bolide, and that the car has a “doble” of “the same” and “the same”.

The materials also say that Destrier, like Bolide, uses a “splashing” carbon-fibre monocoque and has a “strong” W16 engine with 1578bhp. The materials also say that the car’s exterior, like Bolide, is “inspired” by the “racing” design language and that the car uses “aerodynamic” elements.

Bugatti has announced the car’s public debut, with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Frank Heyl also said that Destrier would be displayed on the concours lawns “for the first time in 50 years”; meanwhile, the car’s debut at Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach Concours will take place on 16 August.
